A console is often the first surface you see when you enter a room. Flowers can give it a focal point, but a successful display also leaves space for everyday life. Start with the furniture, the wall behind it and the route people take past it.
Decide what the console needs to do
An entrance console may need a place for keys and post. A living-room console may support a lamp. Mark those practical areas before choosing the vase position. Put the flowers where they can remain undisturbed, with their widest branches clear of passing shoulders, door handles and drawers.
On a narrow console, depth can be more restrictive than width. A vase may fit while the flowers extend too far forward. Measure the whole display area and check the view from both ends of the hallway.
Balance flowers with a lamp or mirror
Try the arrangement slightly off centre, with a lower object on the other side. Different heights often create a more relaxed balance than two objects of equal scale. If a lamp is already tall and visually strong, use flowers with a softer outline rather than making both compete for attention.
A mirror can give the flowers more presence by reflecting their back. That makes the rear of the arrangement worth checking. Leave enough separation that leaves are not pressed against the glass. With artwork, assess whether the flowers frame it or hide its most interesting part.

These combinations are starting points. Repeat one colour already present in the room if you want the flowers to feel connected immediately.
Finish from the doorway
Stand where you normally enter the room. Check the overall outline, then move close enough to inspect petals and the vase. Remove a small accessory if the console feels crowded. Negative space lets a flower arrangement read as a deliberate part of the room.
