“Real touch” and “silk flowers” can be useful starting points when shopping for artificial flowers, but neither phrase tells you everything about a stem. Compare the actual item: how it looks, how it feels, what it is made from and how it should be cared for.
What does real touch mean?
Retailers generally use real touch to describe artificial flowers intended to feel more like fresh petals. It is not a complete material specification. Two flowers described this way may have different constructions and care requirements. Ask the seller for the actual composition rather than assuming that every petal, leaf and stem uses the same material.
Are silk flowers made from silk?
The phrase is often used as a broad name for artificial flowers. Do not assume a product contains natural silk unless the specification says so. A textile petal and a coated or moulded petal can each produce a different finish; the best choice depends on the flower shape and the quality of the finished construction.
Compare the features that matter
- Appearance: check petal shape, colour variation, the underside of the flower and the leaf finish.
- Feel: consider whether visitors will handle the flowers or mainly see them from across a room.
- Thickness: the petal should look appropriate to the flower being represented.
- Assembly: inspect joins, visible glue and whether the flower sits naturally on the stem.
- Care: look for instructions that match the specific finish; a soft surface is not proof that it is washable.
Which should you choose for your home?
Start with where the arrangement will sit. On a bedside table or low console, detail at close range matters. In a tall entrance-hall display, the outline, scale and foliage may be what you notice first. If a particular substance matters to you, ask for a specific composition declaration; the words real touch do not establish whether a product contains latex or is suitable for a particular sensitivity.
